Retail sales return to pre-pandemic levels but high street fashion stores suffering

Shoppers returned to high streets in increasing numbers in the UK last month but business at clothes and household goods stores remains below pre-pandemic levels, official figures show.

The UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) said total retail sales volumes in July rose 3.6% compared with June and are now 3% above pre-pandemic levels.
