Market recovers some lost ground

SHARES in Dublin recovered slightly yesterday after the ISEQ fell dramatically on Thursday. The benchmark index of Irish shares closed up 44.35 at 6029.23.

The financials had a mixed day with Bank of Ireland gaining the most ground climbing 40c to €12.55. AIB on the other hand gave up 7c to close at €16.08.

On the second line Anglo-Irish declined by 5c while Irish Life and Permanent shares rose to €13.75.

Troubled pharmaceutical company Elan rebounded, its share price increasing to €2.70 up 30c.

Elsewhere, in construction the main mover was Kingspan up 13c to €9.25 after raising $200 million from a private placing in the US.

CRH and Grafton also ended the day in positive territory, up 1c and 7c respectively. Finally co-op IAWS shares gained 23c to finish at €11.90.
