Leitrim edge tight contest
Leitrim 1-12 Fermanagh 0-14
Leitrim's hurlers edged out Fermanagh to book a spot in the quarter-finals of the Lory Meagher Cup after a lively encounter at Brewster Park, Enniskillen.
It was the proverbial game of two halves as Leitrim started off in determined fashion and built up a six-point lead at the interval.
Clem Cunniffe was in outstanding form for the visitors and excelled in the free-taking stakes to keep Leitrim on top.
Although they leaked a goal on the restart, wind-assisted Fermanagh failed to give up without a fight.
Rory O'Donnell's charges kept in touch in a game that was a real battle of the free-takers as Ryan Bogue (0-12) kept the Ernemen in touch.
Declan McGarry and Charle Kehoe (0-1 each) also bagged scores for the hosts.
However, Leitrim led this game from the start and although Fermanagh cut the deficit to a point at the death, it was the westerners' strong first half display which ensured their progress.
