Provincial finalists kept apart in All-Ireland hurling semi-finals

The counties which faced each other in the Munster and Leinster hurling deciders will be kept apart in the All-Ireland semi-finals.

The GAA yesterday announced All-Ireland champions Galway will play their All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday, July 28 (Croke Park, 5pm). Should Kilkenny and Wexford, for example, win their respective quarter-finals this weekend, then the Tribesmen will play Wexford as provincial final pairings cannot be repeated in the penultimate round.

Munster champions Cork are in All-Ireland semi-final action on Sunday, July 29 (Croke Park, 3.30pm). Similarly, John Meyler’s charges will battle with Limerick were both the Treatymen and the Banner to come through this weekend.

If both beaten provincial finalists record victories this Saturday and Sunday, Galway will meet Clare and Cork will face Kilkenny.

The dates and times have also been announced for rounds two and three of the Super 8s. Sky Sports, who were unhappy at not getting the Dublin-Donegal game this Saturday, will show the All-Ireland champions’ visit to Omagh on Saturday week, July 21 (throw-in 7pm).

The following day, Galway and Kildare step into the ring in Newbridge at 2pm, with Kerry and Monaghan getting underway in Clones at 4pm.

The final round of group games will start at the same time. Group 1 fixtures throw-in at 6pm on Saturday, August 4, with Group 2 taking centre-stage from 3.30pm on Sunday, August 5.
