Eclectic as ever, Esther N McCarthy eyes up a Cocteau collectible, fab craft items, and a luxury gift that keeps on giving
This is one for the culture vultures out there. In the 130th anniversary year of painter, ceramicist, poet, writer and filmmaker Jean Cocteau’s birth, a collection of 46 ceramics by the leading figure of the French avant-garde, will be offered at auction at Bonhams Prints and Multiples sale on December 11 and 12 in London.
It is the first time such a large collection of Cocteau ceramics has been offered at auction.
Pictured here is ‘Le Théâtre Antique’, white earthenware plate with coloured engobe. Conceived in 1958 and executed in an edition of 40, the estimate is £4,000-6,000.
Since 1723, the looms in The Mill in Avoca Village, Co Wicklow, have been weaving beautiful throws, rugs, and blankets in natural, luxurious fabrics. Above is the M192 mohair throw, which costs €124.95 for the small and €164.95 for the large.

I’ve noticed Lidl are doing the environmentally-friendly toy thing this year — there seems to be a lot less plastic and a lot more wooden toys.

I love the colours in this bread bag. If you fancy a fresh loaf of a morning, bring the bag along and leave the packaging behind. When you get home, fold it over as a breadbasket for the table. And, when breakfast is over, tie it back up to keep your bread fresh… if there’s any left.
€32 from www.everandagain.com.
Even better, it’s can be popped in the washing machineg, and is air and dryer friendly too.
