Three arrested after man shot dead in front of his wife

Three men have been arrested over the murder of a criminal at a cash-for-clothes business.

Father-of-one Gintaris Zelvys, 43, was gunned down in front of his wife on the Greenogue industrial estate, near Rathcoole, in the west of Dublin on May 1.

Two men aged in their late 20s and one in his mid-30s were arrested this morning.

They were detained by detectives from Clondalkin under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí appealed for information on a silver-coloured Audi A3 used in the murder.

It had the partial registration number 05 – TN and was in the vicinity of either Pace Avenue, Little Pace in the Dublin 15 area for almost two weeks between March 19 and April 30 or in Newcastle Boulevard or Aylmer Road, Newcastle, Co Kildare, on the night of April 30 and the morning of May 1.

It is understood the Audi pulled up as Zelvys was opening a clothes recycling business, Progressive Recycling, at a unit in Grant’s Crescent.

One of a number of men inside the five-door hatchback opened fire, shooting him several times.

Officers said they also wish to speak to anyone who saw a silver-coloured taxi, a Toyota Avensis estate with the partial registration number 10 – D around Newcastle village on April 30 or the Greenogue estate on May 1 to contact them at Clondalkin station.

Zelvys had only been released from a lengthy jail sentence at Castlerea Prison in February this year and was heavily involved in crime in Ireland and his native Lithuania.

He had convictions for rape, robbery, extortion, assault and theft.
