Lenihan to seek wind-down of Anglo at EU meeting

The Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan will put the case to Brussels later that Anglo Irish Bank should be wound down.

Mr Lenihan is attending a two-day meeting of EU Finance Ministers and will meet the EU Commissioner who will rubber stamp the bank's future plans.

Minister Lenihan is expected to explain how he believes the winding down of Anglo Irish Bank over several years will ease the burden on the Irish taxpayer.

The move signals that the Government seems to have a changed its position on the way forward for the bank.
