Xbox One update will make your console faster
Microsoft has confirmed the details of the upcoming console update which will add a host of new features and functionality. It's going to be a 'completely re-imagined Xbox One' at least in their words.
The update comes from a long period of player feedback and will also integrate elements of Windows 10 to create a hybrid and unified system. Bringing that tech on board should see some major speed improvements, making it far easier and faster to set up groups with your friends.
One of the biggest new features on the way is backwards compatability, which will make it possible to play your old Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One. You just pop in the old disk and if the game is part of the constantly expanding list it will prompt a download of a digital version on the console itself. The best news is that this is all offered for free, so root out those old games!
The user interface is getting a sprucing up, with frequently used functions hidden behind a double tap of the home button. The Xbox One dash has never been the most intuitive, especially in contrast to the PS4's linear list, so any change is welcome.
There will also be more social options, which are easier to find, and a streamlined approach to the digital store - which again didn't make as much sense as it should.
The New Xbox One Experience will be coming to members of the Preview program first in the next few weeks, before a full launch in early November 2015. Just in time for Christmas!
