Grand Theft Auto V publisher Take-Two Interactive has come under fire from GTA players for shutting down a number of the game’s popular modding and cheating software, as reported by Kotaku.

Take-Two sent cease-and-desist letters to the developers behind cheat software Force Hax, Lexicon and Menyoo, with the websites for the aforementioned software now reading:

"After discussions with Take-Two Interactive, effective immediately we are ceasing all maintenance, development and distribution of the [Lexicon / Menyoo / Force Hax] cheat menu services. We will be donating our proceeds to a charity designated by Take-Two. We apologise for any and all problems [Lexicon / Menyoo / Force Hax] has caused to the Grand Theft Auto Online community."

Take-Two also sent a cease-and-desist letter to the developers of the modding software OpenIV, which proved controversial due to its popularity among players.

Speaking about the decision to shut down OpenIV, Take-Two said:

“Take-Two's actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.”
