UK awards shortlist Irish rugby website Scrumqueens.com for top prize

Global women’s rugby website Scrumqueens.com was set up by Alison Donnelly from Ballintotis in East Cork six years ago, having moved to London.

She’s been running the site on a voluntary basis whilst working full-time.

Yesterday the 31-year-old’s site was nominated in a six-group shortlist for ‘Media Organisation of the Year’ in Britain’s first ever Women’s Sport Trust #BeAGameChanger Awards, along with BT Sport, BBC Sport, Sky Sports and print outlets The Daily Telegraph and First News.

Scrumqueens.com is the only organisation on the shortlist which represents just a single sport and is also the only website shortlisted.

Donnelly told the Examiner: “It’s great to be shortlisted alongside some of the biggest names in the UK’s media landscape. Women’s rugby has come a long way since we set Scrumqueens.com up 2009 and we’ve been part of the journey of the game’s move into the mainstream.”
