Govt to include ban on alcohol sponsorship of sport in new legislation
The ban on alcohol sponsorship of sports events is moving closer.
A clause which would bring it into effect is being included in new legislation being published next month.
However, the Minister for Health Leo Varadkar and Minister for Sport Paschal Donohoe have said the ban will not be introduced until alternative methods of funding are put in place for sports events.
The clause will be contained in the Public Health (Alcohol Bill) which aims to limit the below cost selling of drink and prevent misuse of alcohol.
The Irish Times reports that a review group considering the ban on alcohol sponsorship of sports events has not yet issued its recommendations.
