Ceiling collapse in Cork University Hospital
Out-patient clinic care is continuing at Cork University Hospital this afternoon, despite part of the roof collapsing there.
It happened at around 8.30am as out-patients were gathering for a clinic in the ophthalmic unit. Some people had to be evacuated following the incident.
Members of Cork City Fire Brigade attended the scene and it is understood the area suffered significant water damage.
A spokesperson for the hospital has confirmed that a number of ceiling tiles were water damaged and gave way in the reception area.
They say services for casualty patients are continuing as normal, but a number of appointments for ophthalmology outpatient care have been cancelled.
It is believed that a major leak may have forced the ceiling to give way. No injuries have been reported and the damage is being assessed.
