A jury has decided that Samsung infringed Apple smartphone patents and awarded $120m (€86.5m) in damages to the California company.

In a counterclaim filed by Samsung, the panel also said Apple infringed Samsung Electronics patents and awarded $158,000 dollars (€113,887) in damages to South Korean company.

The jury delivered the decisions in federal court in San Jose, California, in the latest lawsuits involving the two tech giants.

Apple had sought $2.2bn (€1.59bn) after accusing Samsung Electronics of infringing five of its patents covering functions such as slide-to-lock, universal searching and quick linking.

Samsung had sought $6m (€4.32m) after arguing Apple that had infringed two of its smartphone patents related to camera use and video transmission.

The verdict marked the latest intellectual property battle between the world’s top two smartphone makers. Apple and Samsung have sued each other in courts and trade offices around the world.
