Christie’s to auction Picasso piece for £1,000

Art lovers will get the chance to pick up a Picasso at auction for around £1,000 (€1,400) when work by the artist goes under the hammer next week.

More than 50 paintings and sculptures will be sold at Christie’s Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale on Tuesday, when millions of pounds will change hands.

Among the works offered for sale are a series of large Monet canvases estimated to fetch €12.6m and a Picasso portrait painted shortly before his 90th birthday expected to fetch €9m.

A cheaper alternative will be available two days later when Picador, a plate by Picasso, is estimated to fetch around £1,000 at a ceramics sale.
