Will Irish Water still be there in year’s time?

In a few weeks time people who have registered their details with Irish Water will receive their first bills.

Will Irish Water still be there in year’s time?

The question is, will Irish Water be in existence this time next year? Many people believe it will not be. If not, what will happen to the money that decent law abiding citizens will have paid to this company?

The setting up of Irish Water has been a fiasco. However this does not excuse the many despicable acts that some water meter protestors have engaged in. I do not know what purpose is served for example by water meter protestors continuously preventing meetings of Cork City Council going ahead.

There are absolutely no penalties for refusing to pay for 15 months. During that time I presume people will have received their €100 “water conservation grants”. Furthermore a general election will have occurred and a new administration may decide to abolish Irish Water completely. Going on this, a wait and see approach may appear to be the most prudent.

Between the government’s bungling and the behaviour of admittedly a small minority of anti-water charges protestors who are capable of causing chaos much greater than their number might suggest, this surely is an almighty mess,
