Readers Blog: Give Christmas toys for refugee children
Our group is appealing for children’s toys or clothes to help refugees here in Ireland. Like all children, they would enjoy having some gifts for Christmas.
Children living in these centres are not necessarily applying for asylum themselves, but are the children of people seeking asylum, and might have been born here and have lived their whole lives here.
Regardless of their families’ status, these children did not choose to come to Ireland and they have no control over their circumstances.
One third of all asylum seekers living in direct provision in Ireland are children.
That’s 2,000 people. The time period in DP can range from less than one year to seven years.
We appeal to Irish people to help make these children’s lives a little brighter.
Living in refugee centres can be so tough.
We urgently need donations of toys and clothes to make these children’s lives a little better. Many of them have been through a lot and every child enjoy toys and presents at Christmas.
Toys may be new or used but in good condition, Clothes too, also in good condition.
Do help us, as it will mean so much to children who have suffered so much. Donations welcome until December 22.
