Huawei GX8 review
From the outset, it's clear that the GX8 is a Huawei device. It looks like a premium smartphone, is wrapped in aluminium, and the 5.5-inch display is covered by curved Gorilla Glass 4.
It certainly looks the part, but how does it perform? The screen is not only large enough to enjoy media, but it's sharp too at a pixel density of 401ppi. Under the hood, the GX8 utilises an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, unlike many Huawei handsets in recent years that use Huawei's own Kirin processor. The handset performs well, no doubt aided by 3GB RAM, and is more than capable of handling demanding games without any issue.
One area that Huawei has emphasised over the last few years is the camera, and the GX8 has benefited from this work too. The GX8 packs a 13MP rear-facing camera with autofocus and even a dual-LED flash, which is a bit of a novelty. On the front of the device sits a 5MP snapper, which boasts a few different shooting modes to make your selfies pop.
Battery life is something that smartphone users have become increasingly concerned about, and you should comfortably get more than a day of normal use out of the GX8. It also boasts a few energy-saving modes just in case you find yourself in a bit of a pinch.
The Huawei GX8 is an affordable handset and good value for its price with plenty of power, some novel camera features, and a design that wouldn't seem out of place on a more premium-tier handset.
