Apple quietly kills off last of the non-Retina iPads

Apple’s original iPad mini was the last of a dying breed; it was the only non-Retina iPad still on sale. But its day has also come, as Apple removed it from its online store.

Apple quietly kills off last of the non-Retina iPads

The original iPad mini is missing from Apple’s comparison chart, leaving the iPad mini 2 and 3, as well as the iPad Air and iPad Air 2 as the tablet options available to buy online.

This move doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The device was released in 2012 and was the first 7.9-inch tablet that Apple made. While it had a denser display resolution than was available on the 9.7-inch iPad with the same number of pixels, it did not meet Apple’s standards for a high-density ‘Retina’ display.

While you won’t be able to purchase a new iPad mini, you can still continue to enjoy it if you have it or pick it up elsewhere. Apple announced that it will be able to work with iOS 9. The latest version of the OS is due out this autumn and will bring with it a host of new features and tweaks.
