Twin Peaks is definitely coming back to TV with the show already filming but it's not going to air any time soon

Twin Peaks TV show won't air til 2017!

David Lynch is totally filming a new Twin Peaks TV show right now. Some of the original cast are involved along with co-writer Mark Frost and original composer Angelo Badalamenti and as its coming to Showtime it's going to be weirder and bloodier than ever.

But it's not coming soon...

Lynch has always been fairly sketchy on when the show will actually come to TV screens, and Showtime to their credit have been working closely with the filmmaker to ensure he gets his full vision into the production. The release date had been rumoured to be sometime in 2016 but with the director and writer still keeping quiet on exactly how many episodes there will be, a delay was pretty much inevitable.

And now that's happened. CBS chief Leslie Moonves confirmed that the limited series won't premiere on Showtime until 2017.

While it's shame that we'll have to wait longer, it's refreshing to see a property given time to reach its full potential, rather than rushing to hit a date that would coincide with the 25 year anniversary of the original show. We'd rather Lynch got to cram as much weirdness in there as possible, delivering up another mega slice of strangeness.

Only Kyle MacLachlan has been confirmed to return from the original cast but many others have been rumoured to be hanging out around the set. In addition, new folks to this small town include Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Robert Knepper and Jennifer Jason Leigh. We're even hearing that Lynch alum Naomi Watts could turn up.

We'll have more on the Twin Peaks limited series in the future.
