MUSIC: Listen to one of James Horner's last songs from Southpaw
James Horner was one of the most prolific movie music composers around, leaving behind a huge body of work after his sad passing in June 2015. His classic scores include work on Titanic, Avatar, Willow, An American Tail, Field of Dreams, Braveheart, Troy and he would no doubt have produced many more great works.
But we're not quite finished with his work yet. Thanks to his rapid creative output, he managed to finish a few scores before his passing, including that for the new boxing movie Southpaw. Here's a track from that score, called A Long Road Back.
It's typically gorgeous stuff, familiar and perfectly fitting to the story of Southpaw which sees boxer Jake Gyllenhaal trying to rebuild his life and career after tragedy strikes.
The even better news is that Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua recently revealed he had planned to work with Horner on the score for his upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven and that the composer had already finished the soundtrack. That's without seeing a frame of film for the movie which is only just gearing up to shoot.
It's pretty incredible news, and means we're going to get to hear at least some of his sounds at least into 2017.
