Listen to a track from The Revenant's score

It's hard to know what to think of The Revenant, the follow up film from Birdman director Alejandro G. Inarritu but one thing is certain - it's going to be dripping with atmosphere.

That starts with the real life location shooting which used available light for maximally awkward shooting over more than six months. The film went over time and over budget and caused massive issues with cast and crew, and that was before star Leonardo DiCaprio (a long time vegetarian) ripped into raw meat while he was in character. But the results look amazing, and that tone goes right through to the score.

Today we've got a sample of a piece from the film which was composed by Bryce Dessner, better known for his work with The National. It's an intense and dramatic track called 'Imagining Buffalo' - check it out.

There will also be a regular score for the film, which was crafted by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto which is pretty much destined to be more than a little strange. Here's the full track list.

The soundtrack is coming out digitally on Christmas day 2015 and will be on CD in January 2016. The Revenant arrives in Irish cinemas on the 15th of January 2016.
