PS VR 'has to be affordable'

One of the big question marks surrounding the PlayStation VR headset is its price. Those hoping to get their hands on the headset may be pleased to hear that PlayStation executive Vice President Masayasu Ito has said that "it has to be affordable."

“The biggest advantage for Sony is our headset works with PS4. It's more for everyday use, so it has to be easy to use and it has to be affordable…It's for the mass market," Ito said, in an interview with Polygon.

However, one of the trade-offs is that it won't be as powerful as the Oculus Rift. Ito admitted that the PS VR won't match the "high-end quality" of the Rift, but has different entry requirements and goals. "If you just talk about the high-end quality, yes, I would admit that Oculus may have better VR. However, it requires a very expensive and very fast PC,” he said.

Sony is expected to unveil more details about its VR headset on March 15th.
