Nintendo fans visit Satoru Iwata's final resting place
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, Reggie Fils-Aime and Bill Trinen were present. They were joined by former Sonic Team boss Yuji Naka, Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai, The Legend of Zelda series boss Eiji Aonuma, Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert, and Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya.
Iwata’s death last weekend was met with an outpouring of emotion from those in the industry and fans alike. Over the past few days, more than 3,000 people visited Iwata's final resting place at a Japanese temple in Nintendo's home city of Kyoto.
Nintendo is yet to announce a successor to Iwata. In the interim, Miyamoto and veteran director Genyo Takeda will lead the company.
They have promised to continue the good work of Iwata and ensure that his legacy lives on. The seeds that Mr. Iwata planted would one day grow into flowers "that will make people around the world smile," Takeda added.
Nintendo fans have been hoping for other tributes to Iwata. They have petitioned Nintendo to honor Iwata with his very own amiibo to serve as “a small reminder of Iwata's legacy and accomplishments." While a touching gesture, Nintendo has struggled to keep up with the demand of its regular amiibo line.
