Defiance TV show is gone but the game continues
The Syfy show kicked off in 2013, telling the story of a lawman in a town where humans and aliens (kinda) peacefully coexist. It was a bit cheesy and silly but better tahn most of the stuff Syfy churns out. Declining ratings put paid to the show in the end, though it was still among the most watched on the channel.
Defiance originally launched in conjunction with a tie in game; an ambitious MMORPG where you got to play as one of a huge number of human and alien characters in an evolving world which was impacted by the plot of the show. And it turns out that the game will keep on ticking without its small screen counterpart.
It's not known if developer Trion Worlds will be able to keep it going for indefinitely, but Defiance (the game) obviously has a big enough fan base and is making enough money to continue, despite going free-to-play in 2014. Have to love those microtransactions.
