Wallace’s Youths get friendly boost

KEVIN DOYLE’S transfer to Wolves brings an unexpected bonus to Wexford Youths where he spent a chunk of his teenage years. Wolves have agreed to bring a team to Ferrycarrig Park and Doyle can’t wait to return.

Wanderers chief executive Jez Moxey said: “It is to be confirmed and it will be during the season when there is a natural break. The logic will be to play on Saturday, leave on Sunday, play (in Wexford) on Monday and come home on Tuesday.

“We will use it as a club break for our players and it will be a natural tie in. Kevin’s got great affinity with where he lived and Mick Wallace, the founder of Wexford Youths.

“It is a really nice tie-in, a lovely trip and it will be nice to go there and play in an exhibition game.

Wexford Youths manager Mick Wallace says there will be “massive interest at home”.

“They will be over this year and we may have to get some extra seats in,” Wallace said. “We are a very new club, only three years old, and use mainly local players. This season alone we have used six under-18s in our League of Ireland squad which is amateur.

“Kevin has been doing well for a few years now and it is great to see him at an old fashioned club like Wolves who care about the game. He’s going to enjoy it. There is plenty of talent in Ireland, it’s a case of harnessing it.”

Doyle will be glad to return to Wexford. “I’ve obviously been back on holidays but I haven’t played their since I was 16 and they have just entered the League of Ireland in the last three years and have got really good facilities.

“It will be nice, we will be looked after and it will be a great occasion for Wexford.”
