Suarez to stay for Champions League tilt

Luis Suarez has insisted he will stay at Liverpool if they qualify for the Champions League — and revealed that he has improved his behaviour after wife Sofia threatened to stop bringing their children to watch him play.

Suarez to stay for Champions League tilt

Suarez ended his recent five-game scoring drought with a goal in each of Liverpool’s last two away wins — 3-0 at Southampton and the same score at Manchester United on Sunday — and the Uruguayan is seven goals clear of his team-mate Daniel Sturridge in second place in the Premier League scoring charts.

“We all want Liverpool to be back in the Champions League for next season. My dream is to play in the Champions League with Liverpool next season,” said Suarez.

Suarez’s achievements this season are all the more remarkable given that he missed the first six games because he was serving a ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic last season.

And Suarez has told Mexican television that his latest bout of bad behaviour brought a stern rebuke from his wife.

“My wife has supported me so much,” he said. “But she threatened me too: she told me that if I kept fighting with my opponents or the referees, she would not go to see me anymore to the stadium.

“She also told me that if I kept doing what I was doing, my children wouldn’t be there as well. So I thought about it and I realised that she was right. I had to change. Now, she is really happy with my behaviour on the pitch.”
