How much will it cost you to travel away for Ireland's Euro 2016 play-off?

The dream is well and truly alive. There’s just the small matter of a Euro 2016 play-off in the way.
How much will it cost you to travel away for Ireland's Euro 2016 play-off?

With Ireland’s Eurepean Championship qualification now set to be determined in a play-off in early November, many fans will be nervously anticipating Monday’s draw. Ireland, who are unseeded, can face one of four opponents and here we take a look at just how much it will cost you to travel to the away leg and support the Boys in Green.

Sweden:

Home of superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, this is the draw we want to avoid. Sweden boast what is probably the strongest team in the play-off draw and will be odds on to qualify. As well as that, return flights from Dublin to Stockholm aren’t exactly cheap at €592  for you and a mate to make the trip.

On the plus side, the hotels aren’t bad and are relatively cheap with Motel L offering a twin room at just €96 a night. Alternatively, you and a friend could stay in the LogInn hotel, a picturesque boat in the Stockholm harbour for €95.

Cost pp before tickets: €349.50

Hungary:

This wouldn’t be a bad draw for Ireland as a recent poll in Hungary shows that only 5 percent would like to get Ireland in the draw and many Hungarians think they are doomed no matter who they get. As well as that, flights are relatively cheap (compared to Sweden anyway) at just €228 return for you and a friend. If you wish to travel in style, why not stay in the Corinthia Hotel budapest which offer luxurious rooms at €141.52 per night?

Alternatively, if your budget is tight, Madison apartments offer a two-bed apartment at €69 with free WiFi so you can keep up to date with all the latest team news right up to kick off. A play-off against a team who don’t want to play us in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe? Not bad.

Cost pp before tickets: €148.50

Bosnia and Herzegovina:

With a team that includes Edin Dzeko, Miralem Pjanic and Asmir Begovic, Bosnia and Herzegovina will be confident ahead of Monday’s draw that, no matter who they pull out of the bag.

The daunting prospect of an away leg against such strong opposition won’t be helped by the fact that return flights for you and a friend could cost up to €769. On the bright side, there are some nice hotels in Sarajevo, with some offering affordable deals. A twin room in Hotel D’Ivan will set you back €69 per night.

Cost pp before tickets: €419

Ukraine:

Ukraine narrowly missed out on direct qualification after a 1-0 defeat to former World champions Spain. They have a strong side and will be no pushovers but they wouldn’t be the worst possible draw for Ireland.

An away trip to Kiev may not seem ideal at the moment with the conflict that currently grips the country but that won’t stop the most die-hard Irish fans. Return flights with AirBaltic will cost €302 each and a twin room at the Dnipro Hotel will set you back just €35 per night.

Cost pp before tickets: €319.50

So there you have it folks. Hungary are not only the easiest team to beat but also the cheapest destination on the list and a win could result in a night of celebration in beautiful Budapest. Fingers crossed for Monday’s draw then.
