Given returns to Villa

Former Republic of Ireland number Shay Given will not be extending his loan spell at Middlesbrough.

Boro had wanted to extend his deal from Aston Villa for the rest of the season when the initial month long loan expires this week.

But Villa boss Paul Lambert said: “Shay is coming back to Villa.”

Given, 37, is now set for talks on his future with Lambert as he is third choice at Villa behind Brad Guzan and Jed Steer. He has not played for Villa since January. Given has attracted interest from Swansea, who have lost first- choice keeper Michel Vorm following knee surgery.
