Barton given thinking time
The deadline for Barton to accept or deny the charges had been 6pm last night but the Football Association extended that to 12pm today following a request from the Rangers captain’s representatives.
The FA said in a statement: “The deadline of 6pm on Tuesday 15 May, which Joey Barton had until to respond to the two FA charges against him for alleged violent conduct has been extended to 12 noon on Wednesday 16 May following a request from his representatives.”
* Huddersfield booked a League One play-off final date against Sheffield United despite losing the second leg of their play-off semi-final 2-1 to MK Dons last night.
The Terriers, leading 2-0 from the first leg in Milton Keynes, went ahead on the night through leading scorer Jordan Rhodes, only for Daniel Powell to level for the visitors before half-time.
Although substitute Alan Smith scored with a header in injury-time, Huddersfield, in front of more than 15,000 fans at their Galpharm Stadium, held on to make sure of their place at Wembley.
