James McGee yesterday rose to the challenge of standing in for Louk Sorensen in the opening singles rubber of the Davis Cup showdown between Hungary and Ireland in Hungary, scoring a 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-7 (7/9) 6-4 victory over his 316-ranked opponent.
Elsewhere, Marton Fucsovics (Hun) beat Conor Niland (Irl) (Irl) 7-6 (7/5) 6-4 6-7 (3/7) 2-6 6-2.
