Molitor scalp would catapult Frampton into big time

Carl Frampton believes that a win over Canadian super-bantamweight Steve Molitor in his home town of Belfast tonight will be the key to a world title shot.

The unbeaten former Irish Elite champion puts his Commonwealth and IBF Inter-Continental belts on the line against the Ontario-born southpaw, an ex-World champion, in front of a full house at the Odyssey Arena.

Boxing out of Barry McGuigan’s stable, Frampton has hammered out 14 straight wins (9 KOs) since 2009.

However, victory over Molitor, who has indicated that he will retire if he loses tonight, is the one that will be seen as a breakthrough victory.

“This is a massive opportunity for me. He’s been where I want to get, but he’s had his time at the top and now it’s my turn,” said the 25-year-old.

“Sparring, everything, has been going great and I’m feeling very fit and confident going into this fight.

“This is a big night for me and I can’t wait for it to happen.”
