Thursday, September 09, 2010

KATIE TAYLOR has been drawn against Neetu Chahal in the preliminary rounds of the sixth AIBA Women’s World Championships in Barbados.

The Bray woman, who is targeting her third World 60Kg title on the trot, meets the India lightweight in Bridgetown on Saturday.

Taylor’s team-mates, Cavan flyweight Ceire Smith, Belfast light-welterweight Allana Murphy and Dublin middleweight Sinead Kavanagh have been handed tricky draws at the Championships.

Smith meets a Sri Lanka opponent to be confirmed in the preliminaries, while Murphy is facing the toughest task of the lot, a four-rounder against current World champ Gulsum Tatar of Turkey. Kavanagh will trade leather with Wided Younsi of Tunisia.

A record breaking 306 boxers from 75 nations are competing at the Championships .
