Referee’s report into Clare club brawl sees Daly off the hook
The Dublin manager, a selector with Clarecastle, is not among those who were cited in match official Jim Hickey’s account of the game in Sixmilebridge.
The referee’s report is currently with Clare’s Bord na nÓg Iomaint and it is no surprise Daly’s name has not featured as he was not among those sent off.
It is believed the two managers, Kilmaley’s Niall Romer and Clarecastle’s Tom Howard, who were both dismissed, were the only officials noted by Hickey.
Photographs from the game show Daly and fellow Clarecastle man Stephen Sheedy involved in an altercation with Romer, who is appealing a 48-week ban from a previous minor game.
Howard, who has taken over from John Meyler as Kerry senior hurling manager, could yet face a suspension affecting his tenure with the county.
Romer is believed to be seeking an apology from Daly.
Photographic evidence was used to identify and hand down a 96-week suspension to Drom-Broadford supporter Martin Stokes for his involvement in an incident with Newcastle West player James Kelly in last Sunday week’s Limerick senior football final.
Bord na nÓg Iomaint chairman Martin Reynolds has excused himself from the disciplinary process on this issue because of his Clarecastle membership.
He told Clare FM the committee involved will act swiftly on Hickey’s report and confirmed the matter will not be dealt with by the senior board but by themselves.
Reynolds said it was a shame Kilmaley’s exciting one-point victory was overshadowed by the unsightly skirmishes.
