I’d love to manage Cork, says Tomás Mulcahy

Cork’s 1990 All-Ireland winning hurling captain Tomás Mulcahy has revealed his ambition to “some day” manage the county.

I’d love to manage Cork, says Tomás Mulcahy

Mulcahy, the holder of three All-Ireland medals, has previously managed his native Glen Rovers and Waterford club Lismore. He has also served as Cork U21 selector and would relish taking charge of the senior side.

“It is something that is in my mind, certainly,” Mulcahy told RTÉ’s Different Class podcast.

“I wouldn’t rule it out. But the timing has to be right for myself in my own life.

“Would I like to do it? Yes, some day the opportunity might arise. It might never arise. I would love to have a go at it, but it would have to be on my terms.”

Mulcahy accepts the life of an inter-county hurler has changed radically since his era and believes catering for players’ off-field commitments is key to effective management.

“Life has changed from where we were and understanding that is a big thing.”

Meanwhile, Cork hurling boss Jimmy Barry-Murphy has named an unchanged team for Saturday’s qualifier clash against Clare at Semple Stadium.

Castlemartyr’s Brian Lawton, who hit 0-2 in the win over Wexford, retains his place at left-half forward. Aidan Walsh, meanwhile, is named at right half-back for the second week in-a-row.

Lorcan McLoughlin is not listed among the substitutes as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury picked up in mid-May.

Cork (v Clare): A Nash; D Cahalane, S McDonnell, B Murphy; A Walsh, M Ellis, C Murphy; D Kearney, B Cooper; C Lehane, P Cronin B Lawton; A Cadogan, S Harnedy, P Horgan.
