Rebels ponderred James Loughrey card appeal

The Cork football management have still not made a decision on whether to appeal James Loughrey’s sending off during last Saturday’s win over Longford.

The Cork defender, along with Longford’s Darren Gallagher, received a straight red card midway through the second-half of the third round qualifier at Pearse Park. Manager Peadar Healy said a decision, either way, will be made today.

“We haven’t appealed, yet,” he said last night.

“We will make a decision today. We still have enough time to appeal, so that if he was cleared he would be available to play against Donegal.”

When asked if he felt Loughrey had a chance of getting off should they appeal, the manager said they’d be “hopeful”.

Conor Dorman, who has been plagued by an old ankle injury since coming off early in the second-half of their Munster semi-final defeat to Tipperary, has returned to full training ahead of the clash with Donegal.

“It is up to Conor now to grab the jersey. A lot of lads put their hand up for selection when coming off the bench against Longford. A lot more have since put their hands up. It is going to be difficult for us to be picking 15, for a start, and then get inside the 26. We have a panel here where you could throw on number 26 and he’d be as good as number 15.”

Healy has been quite impressed at how quickly Alan Cadogan has settled into the camp.

“We have seen him there for the last three or four sessions and he is getting up to the pace of it. Give it another couple of sessions and we’ll have a clearer picture of it. Certainly, Alan Cadogan could make a contribution. We go to all the club matches and we have been very impressed with Alan Cadogan. You can see the energy he brings. He is a great fella to have around the place.”

Meanwhile, the Derry team to face Tipperary in tomorrow’s fourth-round qualifier is unchanged from the side which overcame Cavan last weekend.
