‘Priviliged’ Brian Carroll calls time on Offaly career after 14 years of service

The Coolderry native has been part of the Offaly set-up since 2002, amassing a championship total of 5-191 during his 14 years in senior service.
Carroll lined out at corner-forward in last July’s qualifier defeat away to Clare; his final appearance in the Offaly shirt.
And while enjoying little by the way of silverware during his inter-county career - he retires with a modest two Division 2 league medals, Carroll said he leaves the game with “wonderful memories”.
His departure severs the last remaining link to Offaly’s most recent Leinster final appearance back in 2004.
“I remember playing my first game at U14 in the Tony Forristal competition as fondly as my last game against Clare at senior level 20 years later.
“I have been privileged to play for Offaly and got to fulfil my boyhood dream of captaining my county in 2010,” remarked Carroll in a statement.
“I will always be eternally grateful to the numerous people who have encouraged and supported me in my pursuit of my sporting dreams.
“I would like to thank the people of Coolderry and Offaly, including the many coaches, trainers, officials and backroom staff who continue to tirelessly ensure hurling thrives in our area. While these have been lean years for Offaly supporters, we as players have always been grateful for the continued support you show to our teams.
“I wish the management and players continued success for the coming years and we long for the return of Offaly hurling and football to greater days. Hurling is and always will be part of who I am. I now look forward to continue to play with my club Coolderry and supporting Offaly hurling teams for many years to come.”
