Clinical Clynch helps Meath see off 14-man Kildare
After equalising through Bart Hanley in the 68th minute to force an extra 20 minutes, Meath were in the driving seat at the end of the first extra period when they opened up a five-point lead. When Kildare captain Paul Divilly received a red card for a striking offence on Meath’s top scorer Steven Clynch three minutes into extra-time, the home side’s chances of victory evaporated and Meath hit five unanswered points.
Kildare had started brightly with a Gerry Keegan goal in the second minute and led by 1-9 to 0-7 at half-time. But Meath reeled them in before pulling away in extra-time largely thanks to Clynch.
