HawkEye set for trial run at Thurles this weekend

The score detection technology won’t be used in a live capacity in either of the two games in Thurles, the Cork-Waterford Division 1 final nor the camogie league decider between Cork and Galway. However, the legitimacy of scoring efforts will be assessed privately.
It’s not yet been officially confirmed the system will be operation in time for the Clare-Limerick Munster quarter-final clash in Thurles on May 24.
However, indications are it will be ready for the game prior to being used for the remainder of championship games there. It is also expected HawkEye will be utilised for Tipperary’s league games and other NFL and NHL matches staged at Semple Stadium from next year.
The Clare-Limerick meeting next month is one of three Munster championship games guaranteed to take place in Thurles this summer.
It will be followed by the SFC quarter-final between Tipperary and Waterford on May 31 before Cork and Waterford lock horns again in a SHC semi-final on June 7. Should Tipperary beat Waterford, they will face Kerry in Semple Stadium on June 14.
Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Casement Park have been earmarked for the installation of the system as soon as they are redeveloped. Limerick have expressed interest in the technology being extended to the Gaelic Grounds.
