Templenoe set up semi-final clash with Curraha

Templenoe (Kerry) 2-8 John Mitchels (Liverpool) 0-6: Killian Spillane hit 1-3 as Templenoe defeated British champions John Mitchels in yesterday’s All-Ireland Club JFC quarter-final at Páirc na hÉireann in Birmingham. 

Templenoe adapted well to the difficult conditions and they crafted a commanding lead by half-time thanks to a goal 10 minutes before the break when Danny Cahalane set up Spillane for a fine finish.

Templenoe had been building up a head of steam before Spillane’s goal, excellent points from Stephen O’Sullivan and Sean Sheehan intersected a couple of Spillane frees, while at the other end Mitchels could only register a solitary Paddy Mulligan point (1-5 to 0-1).

Things went from bad to worse for the Liverpool side on the restart with Michael Higgins a straight red for an off the ball incident. And minutes later the Kerry and Munster champions made their advantage count with corner-forward O’Sullivan nabbing their second goal.

Mulligan reeled off five frees but Templenoe never looked in danger. Late points from Cahalane and Josh Holland sealed a win which sets up a last four date with Meath’s Curraha on Sunday week.
