Bradley defends commitment to Derry

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Derry captain, Paddy Bradley has been forced to defend his commitment to the county team on Twitter.

The gifted attacker took to the social networking site yesterday to respond to criticism after he had bemoaned the fact he would miss out on a holiday to New York because of Derry’s Division 2 clash with Tyrone on Sunday.

Bradley pointed out that he missed the holiday and took the resultant financial loss because he wanted to play with Derry, before inviting anyone doubting his dedication to the Oak Leafers to spend a week in his company.

"Seems I annoyed a few derry fans last wk when I said I was pissed of missing a holiday to new york, who wouldn’t be. dont get many holidays" he tweeted before following up: "And the likelihood is that I’ll be out a substantial amount of money. did I ever mention regretting it. I chose to stay to play for derry."

Bradley continued by issuing a stern rebuke to those who had misinterpreted his understandable disappointment at missing out on his holiday as a disinterest in Derry, even though he had chosen his county first.

"If anyone has any questions about my commitment to the team, come spend a week with me and see how I train and look at the time put in.

"For some, Not only are you not allowed a life as a county footballer but you are not entitled to have an opinion," concluded the ace marksman.

Meanwhile RTÉ’s Gaelic football analyst Kevin McStay was criticised by Armagh and Tyrone footballers on Twitter following his analysis of the Kerry-Armagh game on League Sunday.

The former Mayo footballer claimed Ciaran McKeever was "making the most of" being kneed by Tomás Ó Sé in Saturday night’s game in Tralee.

The Kerry defender was dismissed for the incident but McStay said: "He [McKeever] went down easy and stayed down until the red card was flashed." Steven McDonnell tweeted: "When is McStay going to be replaced from the RTÉ panel. Clown."
