Derrytresk to make case on ban ruling

Tuesday, February 07, 2012

Derrytresk are expected to put forward their cases against recommended player bans in front of the Central Hearings Committee in Dublin this evening.

The Tyrone club will challenge a number of the Central Competitions Control Committee’s (CCCC) proposed suspensions handed down to eight of their players arising from the controversial semi-final against Dromid Pearses in Portlaoise last month.

Derrytresk are just five days away from their All-Ireland Club JFC final against Galway’s Clonbur in Croke Park. Dromid Pearses have confirmed they will be contesting all four of the punishments handed down to them — the €2,000 fine as well as the three player suspensions.

Meanwhile, Fermanagh will speak to the GAA about the expenses incurred for their abandoned Allianz Football League Division 4 game away toLondon on Sunday.

The game in Ruislip was called off on Sunday morning because of snow after Peter Canavan’s side had travelled over on Saturday morning.

County secretary Tom Boyle said: "We hope to discuss the matter with them. Taking any group of players anywhere outside the country involves a good deal of expense."

As is standard, Croke Park cover a proportion of the costs incurred by counties playing competitive games outside Ireland. The game will be re-fixed for Ruislip at a later date by the CCCC. Despite concerns due to the inclement weather in England, Fermanagh returned home on Sunday night after taking in a second training session in as many days in the place of the game.
