Voler gets vote

VOLER La Vedette gets the nap to land a cracking five-runner Grade 3 WKD Core Hurdle at Down Royal this afternoon.

Colm Murphy's mare is rapidly on the upgrade and can stamp herself as one to be more than reckoned with as the campaign progresses.

She made a smashing seasonal debut in a Listed race at Punchestown last month and, hopefully, will now build on that. The five-year-old travelled like a dream throughout, quickening in style in the closing stages to slam Give It Time by an easy four and a half lengths.

Cheltenham Supreme Novice hurdle hero, Go Native, faces a stiff task attempting to give the selection 9lbs and a bigger danger could be Luska Lad.

The four-time bumper winner made a satisfactory debut over flights when winning a maiden at Galway, although he is thrown in somewhat at the deep end here.

Ruby Walsh returns to action at the meeting, partnering Luska Lad, and whatever the fate of that horse, the champion jockey can get back on the winning trail aboard Doctor Deejay in the Eventsec three-year-old Maiden Hurdle.

Formerly trained on the level by Michael Halford, Doctor Deejay made an excellent debut over flights for Willie Mullins when beaten a head by heavily-backed Cross Appeal at Thurles.

The Bumper brings together two promising young candidates in Western Leader and Tournedo Shay. Preference is for Tournedo Shay, who was most impressive when beating well-regarded Long Strand by eight lengths at Galway.
