West Cork property a home like no other
THIS amazing octagonal house at Coomhola Valley in West Cork seems a little like a real version of the toadstool houses that children read about in fairy tales.
It’s not just the shape, which comes close to being circular, that gives this impression but also the fact that all the windows and doors are arched just like the ones you see in the story books.

The curved teak staircase has banisters made from locally sourced tree branches and narrow trees trunks, all with their bark still attached.
Facing southeast at the back is a rustic kitchen with red checked curtains covering the units and an oil fired range which is used to heat the house. An archway at the side leads through to a large tiled sunroom/dining room with scenic views.
Facing west is a timber floored living room which has a huge stone fireplace with a stove.
Accommodation found at the top of the curved staircase includes a bathroom with a freestanding bath as well as two bedrooms, one of which has a glazed arched doorway which opens out on to a balcony.
Off the sunroom is a large decking area — providing space to sit out and admire the valley and the surrounding hills.
On a site of over an acre, the property has a large poly tunnel for growing vegetables as well as an oval wildlife pond.
Seeking offers of €250,000, Henry O’Leary auctioneers describes it as a wonderful property in a magical setting. Because of the location seven miles from Glengarriff and six miles from Bantry, Mr O’Leary expected interest from holiday home buyers but has so far had much more interest from people who want to come and live there full time.
