Upgraded riverside city apartment a good catch for canny buyer

Distinctive No 21 Granary Wharf is well above standard, Tommy Barker reports

Lots and lots of properties in Cork have river, estuary, harbour or sea views, but very few allow you to dangle a rod out of a window to lure a fish with.

That’s practically an option with 21 Granary Wharf, a waterside duplex apartment which has been given a significant improvement by its owner.

She put in a solid fuel stove, as a back-up to the electric storage heating, there are feature glass-block walls, a stairs in elm, a slick kitchen in oak with sandblasted glass splashback, storage units also in oak, and shelving in maple, along with an extra-sized 18’ by 11’ master bedroom (two bedrooms were joined together) and Skytubes were used to bounce light down into the apartment’s core as well.

Selling agent Catherine McAuliffe of Savils seeks offers around €170,000 for this distinctive one-off, noting there’s little of the character, quality and setting available in the Cork apartment market, and adds that it has its own front door access, and reserved car parking.

VERDICT: Well above the standard, and the river’s an ever-changing backdrop, with balcony. You could moor a boat within view of the bright living room, and Cork City’s 20 minutes away by car.
