‘Castle’ in Garryvoe has views fit for a king

Garryvoe, CorkĀ ā¬350,000
Bedrooms: 4
Bathrooms:3
BER: NA
Best feature: Views of Garryvoe and Ballycotton Bay.
Caislean (Castle) Ui Cathal, a mile and a half from Garryvoe in East Cork, is looking for a new clan to take up residence.
From the front it looks like a simple, well-maintained traditional cottage, but in the last ten years it has been completely renovated and extended to create a large four bedroom family home which has stunning uninterrupted views of Ballycotton Bay and Garryvoe.
āIt is positioned right in the middle of that bay for views,ā says auctioneer William Wallis of Wallis Auctioneers in Midleton, who is expecting good interest in this one.
The house stands on an acre of ground all in grass, apart from the neat gravel area to the front, leaving plenty of scope for any new owner to put their green fingers to work.

Caislean Ui Cathal is in excellent condition, according to Mr Wallis, who is quoting an asking price of ā¬350,000.
Because of its location overlooking Ballycotton Bay and Garryvoe, and besides being a suitable family home, it could also be the perfect holiday home, although the asking price brings it more in line with the budget of someone looking to trade up, adds Mr Wallis.
As in traditional cottages of old, the front door leads straight into the main living area of the house. This comprises the large living room which opens to the kitchen. Both have porcelain tiled flooring and they share a brick chimney breast.
On one side is a wood pellet stove while on the other is a solid fuel insert stove.
The living room has light coming in from three sides including via double French doors to the rear overlooking the bay.
The kitchen, meanwhile, has chestnut fitted units, an island unit and also patio doors to the rear to admire the view. The rear patio is raised and the space underneath is currently used as a dog house complete with its own rear window.
A utility room and shower room complete the ground floor accommodation, while a staircase leads from the kitchen to both the lower split level bedroom and the first floor.
There are three bedrooms on the upper level. Two share an en-suite bathroom while the third has its own en-suite with a two-person corner jacuzzi bath.
Originally these traditional cottages tended to have small windows, but this revamped property has been fitted with large gallery windows looking out to sea making the most of its picturesque surroundings.
Caislean Ui Cathal is located in an area known as Ballyhimikin, ten miles from Midleton and a commutable 23 miles from Cork city, just minutes from Garryvoe Beach and Ballycotton village.
