Architecture Factory award
CIT’s Architecture department also celebrated a design award for it’s new Architecture Factory, above. The makeover of the former Tyco premises, which the Institute acquired some years ago, has won a Platinum A design award in Italy. The design team, headed by Marc Ó Riain, accepted the award from the president of the International Society of Designers, in Lake Como.
The open-plan, factory building was given a human scale by dropping in six, lime-green shipping containers as intimate office spaces within the volume of the building.
The design, created by CIT lecturer Ó Riain, was developed and delivered by project architects, RKD.
The project won the Irish Design Grand Prix last November, and carries onto the World Festival of Architecture and Interiors, in October.
