Student decides to follow lecturers’ lead

I AM a student at Trinity College Dublin.

Many of the staff there, in conjunction with their colleagues in the public sector generally, are engaging in a so-called work-to-rule.

Given that they have so far been allowed to opt out of many of the tasks for which they are employed without any sanction from their management, I have decided to follow their lead.

I will opt out of sitting my exams at the end of term.

I will also opt out of writing the essays that I’m due to hand in over the next couple of weeks.

I presume the same standard that applies to college staff will be applied to me and that therefore I need not worry about my work-to-rule having any ramifications for my grade at the end of the year.
