Language mindset

It is exactly the mindset that allows the opinion ‘Irish benefits no-one’ that holds us back in relation to languages (Jul 23).

If people find it hard to respect our own language, there is little chance of excelling at more removed languages. The writer should advocate Irish-language education, which has resulted in better standards in Irish, English, and Maths, improving abilities and attitudes to foreign languages.
