Force feeding is cruel

Thursday, December 16, 2010

MAY I make two points in response to Jeremie Pageot (Dec 13) who is anxious to defend his national delicacy, foie gras.

Force feeding is by definition unnatural, and the higher the level of force feeding the more cruelty is inflicted on the recipient.

To make a duck’s liver expand to 10 times its normal size is bound to cause suffering

I am not one of the "extremist animal rights campaigners" referred to by Mr Pageot. Extremism does not help any cause.

I simply abhor cruelty to any creature, human or animal, as I’m sure do the majority of decent, sensible people in this country.
