A calm voice in the heated EU debate
The benefits of our being in the European Union far outweigh the disadvantages — but only if the EU is run as it was, (and is), intended to be run.
Prof Kinsella has one of the calmer voices among the doomsayers but precisely because he is usually calm his now urgent voice needs all the more to be heeded.
The growing consensus among the independent commentators, among the plain people of Ireland, but not among the political elite, and, sadly, least of all within our new Government, is that we are heading towards a point where the weight of our national debt will be unsustainable. The gist of Prof Kinsella’s argument is that since we are going to fall, (or be thrown), off the eurozone truck any way, we should plan it and carry it out in the manner least likely to hurt us really badly.
